Joseph Hanafin began his industrial career in Dow Chemical's
Central Research organization where he spent ten years developing
unique and advanced epoxy resins and catalysts, studied the effects
of epoxy molecular weight, resin structure and composition, curing
agents and fillers and their use in corrosion protective coatings.
He was also a member of the Electronics Business Unit that identified
new and unique applications for Dow products in the emerging
computer and electronics field along the "Route 128 Technology
Highway" west of Boston.
Mr. Hanafin was next in WRGrace's Graphic Arts Business for
two years working on photo-imageable polyurethane polymers for
letterpress and flexographic newspaper printing plates.
He then spent ten years leading the development efforts at
Textron Specialty Materials for Epoxy-based Intumescent Coatings.
These 100% solids, two-component products are used primarily
to protect offshore oilrigs from oil and hydrocarbon based fires.
Two of the products he was responsible for developing, Chartek
4 and Chartek 7, are still considered to be the benchmark products
in this industry. Mr. Hanafin is a co-holder of the US Patent
for Chartek 7.
Prior to moving to Advanced Nano Coatings, Mr. Hanafin spent
the last six years heading up the Intumescent Development Group
at Isolatek International where, as Director of Research and
Development, he was responsible for all aspects of the formulation,
development, manufacturing, fire testing and quality control
of the SprayFilmÒ Water-Based Intumescent products which
now include SprayFilm WB2, WB3, WB4 (an exterior grade product),
and TB-15.
Mr. Hanafin brings a wealth of experience in water-based coatings
and epoxy resin formulation, particularly in intumescent and
corrosion protective coatings, to his new position as President
of Advanced Nano Coatings.
